Earth Care

“The Earth is what we all have in common.”
—Wendell Berry

Many of us do not notice the beauty caused by nature while ignoring the inherent beauty that continues to deteriorate. But what if all of us noticed it? What can we do to address existing environmental degradation? Whether you are a teacher, student, or professional. There is something we can do to slow down or at least alleviate the rapid changes in the environment that we now feel, whether simple or complex.

  1. Plant plants and trees. Due to the increase in population and increase in the needs of the people on a daily basis, it is more necessary to cut down even more trees to be used for daily uses. We need to plant a tree because it provides the oxygen our body needs to survive. It also helps to absorb water during disasters or floods, it also provides ‘raw’ materials to make a product.
  2. Don't waste paper. Reducing the use of paper must be learned, based on the first method it is necessary to plant a tree because it is one of the sources of material to make paper. So if we use paper in the right way we can be compassionate to reduce tree cutting. Some ways here are to use back paper, submit a project via the internet, and much more.
  3. Recycle garbage. Every day, a lot of plastic, biomass waste, metal, and others are collected in our country. Waste causes air, soil, and water pollution that harms the environment. We can easily reduce the amount of garbage that accumulates in our homes. These also include making plant pots, containers of pencils and art materials, lanterns, and many other things that can be made of plastic.
  4. Prohibition on the use of plastic bags. We all know that plastic does not melt quickly, it takes many years before it disappears completely. Plastic is also one of the most common wastes found in landfills. Make it a habit to use paper bags when shopping or bring your own container. And if it's unavoidable, you can use it again when shopping so you don't have to consume another plastic.
  5. Be disciplined in disposing of waste. This is one of the wrongdoings that is currently happening, wrongdoing that has become like a disease of the Filipinos. Flooding, pollution of water bodies, and rising pollution cases. These are some of the effects of dumping garbage in places that should not be dumped. Lack of housing is also the problem of a community, where those who have collected garbage. It is not enough to contain enough waste in a community. So let's reduce the mere dumping of our garbage wherever we can think of.
  6. Teach young people proper environmental practices. I believe that there is still hope for young people, just give them a proper explanation they will better understand what is really going on in nature. While your children or students are young let us make it a habit to show proper care for nature, as an older it is our duty to guide them and show them the right ways to help mother nature.
  7. Support projects that can save the environment. Maybe some of you are thinking how can I support projects? I'm not just a lowly student. Many universities are undertaking various projects related to environmental improvement. Your status in life is not an obstacle to help with the projects you will join. We can do a lot even in a simple way.
  8. Save on water and electricity usage. This reminder is a bit scratchy but we will repeat it because they are two of the things that are used in our daily activities. Be sure to turn off appliances, lights, and water when not in use. Make it a habit to buy ‘energy efficient’ light bulbs instead of regular ones, you can save even more to help the environment. When washing, you can use a bucket for washing instead of using an open faucet.
  9. Don't be ashamed to start a change. As Filipino people, we must know for ourselves when to start to change our habits. Let's be a role model for the person who is afraid of change. Let us change for the betterment of our environment, which we also benefit from. Let the next generations see the remaining beauty of nature.
