Vigan Fiesta Amidst Pandemic.

Every January 25, the Vigan City Fiesta is held. It is commemorated on the feast day of St. Paul the Apostle's conversion. Vigan City's patron saint is St. Paul. St. Paul was known as Saul before his conversion, and he was a fanatical persecutor of Christians. His name was changed to Paul after he had a personal encounter with Jesus Christ on his route to Damascus, and he faced many hardships and dangers in order to proclaim the gospel of God to distant lands. Biguenos from all over the country and even from other countries flock to Vigan to join their family and friends in celebrating their fiesta, as is customary for Filipinos. Thousands of visitors from all over the Philippines and other countries have come to enjoy the cultural shows, parades, and street dancing put on by the local government with the aid of local businesses and communities. There are also food fairs, arts and crafts shows, and a carnival that comes to town.

Many of us find satisfaction in the preparation and celebration of many festivals and celebrations that bring family and friends together at this time of year. Ilocos Sur has varied levels of limitations in place. It is safe to predict that this year's festivities will differ from those of the previous two years, but they may not be 'back to normal'. The formal portions of religious festivals may alter for some of us, with different rules in place at different places of worship. Others will be touched by the casual meetings and family rituals that precede holiday celebrations.

It's difficult to deal with the disappointment of not being able to commemorate an event in the normal way, especially when it has special significance. You may experience a range of feelings such as loss and sadness, which is perfectly normal. Accepting the truth of our circumstances without clinging to the expectation that things will eventually return to "normal" might be beneficial. You can plan how to balance safety and celebration if you can close the gap between your expectations of the "ideal Christmas" and the reality of what's attainable.

We'll have to be more inventive in how we participate in the festivities, but talking about how we celebrated in 2022 might become one of our most cherished memories in years to come – precisely because we were asked to focus on the message.
